Update Tuesday 11/27-12/3

Wow, the holidays really aren't productive, are they?  At least not for me.  I think I added 600 words to the book last week.

I've been really struggling with this revision and I'm not sure why.  I think part of the problem is that I feel a little overwhelmed.  The book fell quite short of the mark in the word count department.  It's YA traditional fantasy and draft 1 capped out at about 56K.  So there are a lot of words to add in.  But as I go through the book I'm noticing that I was very spare in my descriptions as I wrote that first draft.  So there are a lot of places where I can add and beef up that word count.

The other major problem is that I don't like my title and I am finding it impossible to come up with an acceptable title.  Mirror, Mirror is a good working title, I suppose, but the sooner I change it to a title that I adore and that works fabulously with the book the better.

How are your WiPs going?

  1. Ugh! I haven't written since last Wed... 600 is great compared to that! Good luck coming up with a title. Can I help somehow? I do love that part. I know I'm going to have to add desc, too, cause I'm really conversation heavy (but I kind of prefer that to desc heavy...), but I'm already at 50k and I'm only a little over halfway through the story. Ah well. 80k isn't too bad. That's hopefully where I'll end up.

  2. I find its good to allow it to stew a while. Lately, I've been pondering all this deep POV stuff, so I've been reading various authors and just taking it real slow. Learning not to be in a rush- as I reflect on knowing more input will be coming in- regardless...

I like the title you came up with. It evokes some good book cover images. I'm sure 'it will all come to you' - in time:)

Good luck with your novel Stephanie, and congrats with what you've written- so far!

    Have a wonderful holiday season!

  3. I'm also struggling with writing my current WIP, I put in maybe a few hundred words over the last week. Mainly I don't know where I'm going with the story, so when I sit down to write I have no idea what I should be talking about. I don't like for my stories to wander (which they do when I write without knowing the plot), so I've been trying to daydream stuff instead. Blah.

  4. That's funny about the title making you not like working on the project. I was the same way with my last project. I've put it to the side for a while until I can come up with a title that doesn't make me cringe every time I see it on the Word doc.
