WiP Wednesday 1/12

Now, back to our regularly scheduled content.

Okay, folks.  I did another revision pass on Lodestar.

This pass through the MS has been mostly to clean up wordage issues, tweak descriptions for continuity, and ponder whether too much time elapses in the course of the novel.  (It's 4 years, 1 week, 2 1/2 days to be exact.)

I want to enter this into the Amazon Breakout Novel competition, but I'm worried it might be too soon, especially since I have a lack of feedback on the overall novel.  I've gotten feedback on the prologue and first two chapters, and on some of the romance stuff.  Still waiting on the feedback from one person, who is a reader not a writer.  I'll incorporate his suggestions and such on a later round of revisions.

My next pass will be to focus solely on the romance sub-plot, add in emotion and such.  This pass will also be to incorporate feedback from at least one beta, possibly two if we decide to keep going with the process.

I've also got an idea in my head for a YA book that really intrigues me.  But my brain is automatically trying to take it in a fantasy direction.  We'll see how it works out.  But it's a really really intriguing idea to my brain.  SNI, thank you very much.

How are your WiPs going?

  1. I'm stuck on my WIP. I'm thinking of putting it away for a while and working on another project that I'm more excited about.

  2. My WIP has been a story I have wanted to write down for a while. Of course I am a suffer of "TMID" or "Too Many Ideas Disease". I've been writing notes all over the place and reading books to get inspiration The good news is that I'm almost done with my 'pre-college stuff' and I turned in all the requirements for Bill Gates Scholar this Monday.

  3. I'm working on the background and a little light outlining on my wip. I tried to pants it with this idea during Nanowrimo, but I only got about 2000 words before it went south. Hopefully it will go better this time.

  4. Good that you finished yet another revision round on your manuscript. Yes, it's always hard to tell if something is "ready." If you have time, let it sit and look at it again. Read it aloud. Print it up as a hard copy. You'd be surprised how much silly stuff you catch doing those 2 things!

  5. I just cracked the 75k mark on my WIP last night. But it's also giving me grief, and I'm feeling quite insecure about my writing at the moment.

I've just gone over everything written to date since I hadn't written in ages and need a refresher, and I think I'm going through that evil thing that most writers experience called "I Think My Writing Sucks".

*Sigh* I'm trying to push through it and keep writing but it's hard. I'm torn between pushing forward (which I know is the recommended course of action) and going back and fixing the things that are really bugging me.

I hope everyone else is having better luck!
