What Would You Do?

Welcome to a new blog feature.  On Thursdays I'll post a scenario.  I may have pulled it from a television show or a book or crafted it from my own imagination.  Then I'll ask you what you would do following the scenario.  How would you react to the given situation?  How would your MC react?

Got it?  OK.

Today's scenario is:

The person you loved disappeared without saying goodbye.  You know they either wound up in jail or dead.

He or she re-enters your life rather suddenly.  At this point, you've a child and a fiance.  You feel you've moved on.  But then, when they come to actually say goodbye this time around, he or she says, "My real name..."

What would you do?  Would you let them finish the sentence?  Would you want to know what he or she wants to tell you?

What about your MC?  Would he/she want to know?

Have fun!

  1. Well it depends. Whose child is it? Is it the returning guy's or is it the fiance's? :) Seriously, though, I'd let him finish regardless. I'd definitely want to know what he had to say. This is fun. I like the new feature.

  2. My MC would definitely want to know. I would be intrigued, but most of the time I've learned not to let my curiosity get the best of me. I would probably just walk away.

  3. I don't have a MC as such but personally I would want to know.

  4. Hmmm... My MC would want to know. And then there'd be this horrible mix of emotions inside. Mostly the question, "Is he lying?"

Cuz, well, my MC's have trust issues.

  5. Both my protagonist and I would wait it out to see what he had to say.

My MC would probably give him the benefit of the doubt and forgive him. Of course, she did create her new life with a fiance, so she'd maintain friendship with him. Who knows where it would go from there??

As far as my reaction....... After listening to his explanation, I'd probably tell him to stuff it. No, that's a lie. I'd probably forgive him, too. hah

  6. Susan, LOL In the show, the kid wasn't his. And she cut him off.

Nisa, I think you're wise for the realization.

    Kate, thanks for stopping by.

Elana, very true. And there'd definitely be a gamut of emotions.

Stef, thanks for the insight. It's always so interesting to see how different people would react. (And it's really the crux of our work as writers.)

  8. Hi Stephanie!

Great new feature! What fun! :)

I'm way to curious for my own good. I'd have to know. Then, I'd have to know where his lame booty had been!

I'm interested- what show was this?!
