Remember when I said the universe had it out for me?
Yeah. Spoke to soon.
The universe loathes me.
I've still got nearly 22,000 words to write for Oracles Promise. That is so not going to happen before the end of the year. I'm beginning to wonder if the universe plans for me to never finish this book.
At what point do I cave and move to the next project? When do I wave the white flag of surrender and tell the universe she wins?
After all, I've been working on this book since I was in high school.
Now I'm soon to embark on my third degree since graduating from high school. And I'm still not done with the dumb book.
I so wanted to swear right then. Sigh.
That's all. I'll now move on to the actual WiP update.
I've accomplished very little by way of writing since last I posted any sort of update on here. I know I seem to have been away for a very long time. Between being sick with the cold that would not go away and the holidays that landed upon me with very little warning, I had very little time to do anything but tread water to stay afloat.
I have, though, revamped the outlines for the first two books in the Sunstone trilogy. I lost 3 chapters or so from book 2 and moved their principle contents to chapters in book 1. Then I had to hurry to get ready for work so I didn't really have time to do any more writing that day. And it was the first day back to writing in probably a good week and a half.
It's been slow-go as far as progress trying to jump back into the book and writing mode.

ReplyDeleteMaybe the universe is testing your resolve. There is a quote I have often been told "set big goals and kill yourself to reach them" and "the satisfation you get will be in direct relationship to the suffering, pain, anguish and sacrifice you went through to reach those goals" - those were words that I was told by someone far more successful than me.

With all you have on your plate, it's going to be hard to find time to write. My suggestion is to not put too much pressure on yourself. When I do that to myself, it backfires. I wish the the best in getting your book finished. Don't give up.
ReplyDeleteHang in there. I've got a nasty headcold at the moment and I'm impressed that you're even thinking about writing!
ReplyDeleteI think there is something to be said for finishing a project--even if the draft stinks. Don't kill yourself trying to fit in that many words in a few days, but I would suggest trying to hammer out the end of the book before moving on to another project.
ReplyDeleteNew projects are always more exciting and enticing because you haven't hit a wall with them yet. But you will eventually. Every book has a wall at some point that you have to plod through. And if you move on to new projects when you hit that roadblock, then you can end up a chronic starter with no completed projects.
So I suggest you finish the book as best you can. Then you can get it off your plate with a clear conscience and go back to edit it whenever you get the urge to revisit the story. Just my two cents. :)
