WiP Wednesday 1/26

I know I said on Twitter that I was suspending blogging/social networking activities until further notice.  But I can't stay away.  It's nigh impossible.  I might still be spotty in my commenting and such, but I have to blog.  I have to share.

That being said, I'm currently re-evaluating the direction of this blog.  I feel like I'm getting bored with it as it's currently set up.  And I worry that you, my friends and readers, are getting bored with it.  So, bear with me on this coming ride as I explore the possibilities.

Now for the real content of today's post.  WiP Wednesday.

I've launched headlong into my third round of revisions on Lodestar.  I've cut nearly 8K words from the manuscript.  The book starts in an entirely different place from where it did originally.  Okay, maybe not entirely.  But it does start a lot sooner time-wise to the status quo upsetting event.  I've left a lot of stuff in Act 0 and started Act 1 more immediately.

I have many ideas floating around in my head for what I could add to the book to make it stronger, to seed events from the latter end of the book, and to complicated characters.  It's just a matter of figuring out the best places in the manuscript to put these ideas.

I'm excited to get these revisions done and polish up the manuscript once everything's taken care of.  Then it'll be time for another beta read so I can get an idea for whether this new incarnation works better than the last.

Oh, and then I do need to get the guts to ask my professor about some Air Force details because he worked in the USAF for years and would be a good resource.  But I don't want to sound weird or anything when I just randomly ask him about it after or before class.

How are your WiPs going?

  1. My WIP Soul Chaser has been stalled since late Autumn when I distracted myself by writing really hard on a short story for a competition. Entered with such pride and high hopes and of course didn't go anywhere with it. But I am starting to focus my mind on Soul Chaser again. First off by trying to write a brief plot out line of all the past chapters (to remind me where my characters have been) in order to better direct me as to where they go next. The first main problem though is having to choose upon a unique and special magic word my Valkyrie uses to summon and dismiss her wings. I had it all based upon this runic ritual trance she goes into and the meanings the symbols and runes implied but after many trials and errors I've finally chosen it (won't tell you what it is though) - now I just have to work out how to get her flying which will be a major challenge as I've never flown with wings before either - hahaha am I mad? I think so! :p

  2. Pretty script on the blog, btw, tho difficult to read! WiP Wednesday is a very catchy title! Good luck with the Air Force research--just explain it's for a novel you're writing, and I think people are flattered you're using them as a resource. Good luck with your WiP! Mine is dragging on, since life has been so busy; I'm about 3/4 done now.

  3. Actually, I think the Air Force colonel would be happy to schedule time for you to ask in-depth questions. My husband retired from the USMC and has encountered nice people like you who had serious questions he was happy to take time to answer. Men and women in the military arena are proud of their professions and and proud to share (unless classified).

My WIP stagnated a bit after I got over the flu but is now humming along (at least, this week.)

  4. The cursive writing is a new twist around here! It's very personable. Congrats on getting somewhere with the revisions. I'm in this nowhere land right now. I feel this pull back to my last WiP because something doesn't seem right, but I'm itching to move on to my new WiP. Can't seem to commit fully to either project right now. Needless to say, my progress is super slow!

  5. I can't remember if I've ever commented, but I read! I can't read the script, though. I read this via my Google reader and came to comment and found I couldn't read any of the other comments.

One of my WIPs is stagnant, the other, I am working on and hope it will complete a long and winding story.

  6. I enjoy your blog. Perhaps cut back your posting for awhile. You've got a lot going on.

My writing suffered this week because my daughter got sick. But more important to be a good mom. There's always next week.

  7. Woo-hoo for working on the WIP!!! I've been stalled out as of late...too much "real life" stuff happening. Though I hope to get back to writing as soon as it's feasible.
