WiP Wednesday 7/7

Update time!  Yay!

So, I've made a ton of progress, friends, this past week.  A ton!  I'm so excited.

I was absolutely on fire this week.

Since my last progress post I've added 11,140 words to my WiP.  I don't know what happened, but I like it.  I like my muse when she's on board with my goals and actually comes around when I call.

Later today, I will be embarking on writing my climax.  The big battle that's been brewing for nearly 75,000 words now will finally happen.  There's been conflict and drama (I hope) all along, but now's the time for the true battle to begin.  Then it's the falling action and the wrap-up.  I'm going to have to go over my 75K end goal, but I'm okay with it.  That was a very low word count for an urban fantasy anyways.

That's really the only progress I have because I can't even recall specifics of what I managed to make happen beyond getting to the "deep breath before the plunge."  (To quote Gandalf the Grey.)

I am going to bump my end goal count to 80K. Which means some readjusting on my part as far as thinking goes.  But I'm not going to hold myself to that too strictly.  If I'm under that, that's okay.  I just need more wiggle room in my thinking and in the manuscript to wrap things up properly.

How are your WiPs going?

  1. I just got my crits back and am furiously editing... It's better than trying to edit without crits

  2. WOW well done! I'm so impressed, proud and even ashamed.

But the latter is only because yet again I haven't jotted down a single word! I'm still thinking about stuff and I even know what's meant to happen in this chapter but at the moment my mind tends to wander to TV, books (which I've been eating up like chocolate cake recently) and now my creative side has come out into textiles instead of writing! Ghaaaa my muse if I have one tends to be incredibly unpredicatable and indecisive.

I am trying to incorporate my writing into my textile craze though - I've been making a valkyrie t-shirt design and her wings are even made using my own words from my valkyrie urban fantasy WIP Soul Chaser. Thanks to the genius that is Image Maker.

Hope to have it finished my friday so I can post on blog for all to see and think how crazy I am. I am intending to wear it to my norse mythology writer idol that is Joanne Harris next wednesday at an event in York (aka Jorvik to us viking fans). So maybe being overwhelmed with her pure genius might stoke my imagination fire.

  5. Great that you're making so much progress. The climax is usually easier to write. I've been getting more done too, in part because it's too hot to walk outside at lunch.

Are you writing YA?I'm trying to figure out what's an okay word count for a middle grade high fantasy. Any ideas?
