Soundtrack Redux

As I near typing "The End" on this first draft, I thought I'd take a post to share with you my working soundtrack for this novel.  I say "working" in that these are songs I could imagine being on the soundtrack if this book were made into a movie.  I usually listen to music while I'm writing so it could be taken in that sense as well.  (Though generally I just have my iPod on shuffle and so there's nothing specific for any one scene.)

"This Time" from the August Rush soundtrack
"Shining Star" by the Backstreet Boys
"You Raise Me Up" by Josh Groban
"So Close" from the Enchanted soundtrack
"Bigger than my Body" by John Mayer
"To Where You Are" by Josh Groban

Of course, too, there'd be a killer instrumental score or ten for various parts of the movie.  (Preferably by John Williams, Howard Shore, or Patrick Doyle.)
So, that's the list as far as that goes.  When I said I don't have anything specific for any scenes, it's not entirely true.  As I approached writing my final, climactic battle scene I decided that I would need some appropriate music.  So I created a playlist fittingly titled, "Battle Anthems."  Here's what's on that one.

"The Mob Song" from the Beauty and the Beast soundtrack
"Battle" by Colbie Caillat
"Narissa Arrives" from the Enchanted soundtrack
"Bells of Freedom" by Bon Jovi
"Do You Hear the People Sing?" from Les Mis
"The Attack on Rue Plumet" from Les Mis
"First Attack" from Les Mis
"Second Attack/The Final Battle" from Les Mis
"The Treason of Isengard" from the Fellowship of the Ring soundtrack
"The Bridge of Khazad Dum" from the Fellowship of the Ring soundtrack
"Amon Hen" from the Fellowship of the Ring soundtrack
"The Ride of the Rohirrim" from the Return of the King soundtrack
"The Fields of Pelennor" from the Return of the King soundtrack
"The Riders of Rohan" from the Two Towers soundtrack
"Helm's Deep" from the Two Towers soundtrack
"I'll Make a Man out of You" from the Mulan soundtrack
"The Swordfight" from the Phantom of the Opera soundtrack (movie not musical)
"Swords Crossed" from the Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl soundtrack
"Savages (Part 1)" from the Pocahontas soundtrack
"Savages (Part 2)" from the Pocahontas soundtrack
"Into the Fire" from the Scarlet Pimpernel soundtrack (musical not movie)
"Falcon in the Dive" from the Scarlet Pimpernel soundtrack (musical not movie)
"The Duel [Instrumental]" from the Scarlet Pimpernel soundtrack (musical not movie)
"Battle Hymn of the Republic" from the Singles Ward soundtrack

So there you have it.  That's my playlist for this book and for writing a big battle scene.  Hope you all have a good day.

  3. Wow; my soundtrack is much shorter for the Trilogy, but because its subject to change with my mood - and what's popular - maybe its subconsciously longer.

    Good songs BTW.
