WiP Wednesday 6/2

Wow.  Sorry for the random blog hiatus last week.  (Sans warning.)  Lots of progress to report though from the last two weeks since I wrote a WiP update.

Word count for the last two weeks: Added 16,097 words.

Yeah, I kinda wrote a lot.

I've finally given my MC some moderate success at some of the tasks assigned to him.

He's out of the hospital finally, too.  :D

There have been all sorts of upsets to his status quo, though.  And I hope beyond hope none of them come off as contrived.

I know I probably need to do some serious work fleshing out the side characters and even the two females, but I can work on that.  And I will wait for feedback because I think that I've got some heavy-duty rose-colored glasses on when it comes to looking at my characters.

I'm almost to 75% done on this project.  I'll finish this month and hopefully begin my first round of revisions in July.  I'll be on the lookout for beta readers at some point, too.  (And I'll need to find at least one male beta because my MC is male and I really would like the feedback in that regard.)

How are your WiPs going?

  1. My wip is going SLOW. But I am determined to finish a chapter this week--even if it kills me! LOL

  2. Well... I started a new one this week *facepalm* ...but it's for SavvyAuthors boot camp! I just needed something fresh to work on while I edit and finish working on a non-fiction project. I'm hoping the 'boot camp' aspect will keep me focused, because previous weeks have been sloooow going!

  3. I like what you say about giving your character some success. For a long time, I never thought to do that, and all my stories were downers. Now, I remember to throw my character a bone every once in awhile, and I think it makes for entertaining reading. :)

  4. Good job on those added words!!

What genre is this WIP? Depending on what it is, I'd be happy to beta for you =)

And yesterday I wrote 1500 words! I've been giving writing a break because of all the stress in my life right now, but I'm going to try and write some more again. If anything, I feel like I've accomplished something!

  5. Faith, never punish yourself for a new idea. I hear a lot of authors balance a project in revisions with one in first draft mode. If it's a system that works for you, go with it. Good luck with both projects!

Davin, throwing the character a bone once in a while also helps to keep the reader interested. If they come to expect the rug to be pulled out from under your MC's feet all the time the tension is gone. Thanks for stopping by!

  6. Congratulations on the word count! I'm glad you've made such progress :)

I wish I could say the same. My writing is currently on hold since shelving (yet again) my last project. It was an idea I've been wrestling with for over a year now, and I think its had its run.

I'm hoping to resume with something fresh sometime next week.

  7. Sweet!! I love your word count for the week!! I need one or five of those weeks! LOL

I've been working on mine pretty steady. I set a deadline for myself, so I have to hammer-down as my little bro would say. :)

Best wishes for continued kick a** productivity!! :)

  8. I think you already know how my WIP is going. I'm very excited about it! Almost done, whee!

Male beta readers are important. I highly recommend it. :)
