OK, so there's not really a reason to do a WiP update. Except to say that I've officially entered revisions round 1.
How do you people do it? I'm at a loss for really where to begin. Other than with the major cutting that makes me incredibly sad to do.
Oracles Promise has shed some major poundage.
The current revised word count stands at 59,788 words.

There's going to be some serious re-writing, new scene adding, and plotting going on. Right now I'm on a read-through of the manuscript following the chapter-cuts I made over the course of a couple days. (Non-consecutive days.)
As I go, I cut words, sentences, little things that don't mesh now that I've cut all those words. I'm leaving comments in the margins where I've got internal dialogue. The comments are just to tell me who is thinking what so I know if I'm head-hopping too much. (I like to think I'm writing in 3rd omniscient.)
I figure after the read-through I'll correct what I noticed then and be able to move from there into a second read-through. My focus now though is on the head-hopping and scene adding. (Chapter adding, too.)
How's your WiP going?
Wow, are those all novels you have in progress on your sidebar? I'm still in the plotting process. For once I decided to outline, instead of just diving in then running out of ideas and steam.

I just visited your website. Good for you! I need to set one up soon. It's one of my goals for this year. And, about the non-said dialogue tags... I think the problem with them is that they are telling. We are supposed to show not tell. For instance, 'he exclaimed' tells the reader the speaker is speaking with some sort of passion. It's better to show that in a different way. That's my take on it.
ReplyDeleteLisa, no, they're not. 4 of them are poetry collections that I dabble in from time to time. Oracles Promise and Lodestar, however, are novels.

It is difficult to measure progress once we hit revisions but progress it is! I haven't made any noticable progress for a couple of weeks. Too busy jumping around between projects. I highly recommend focusing on one at a time :) Good luck with your revisions!
